Sally Silver

Our focus is to participate with other organizations and agencies while studying the growth patterns of commercial and residential development as well as the transportation system, which supports, feeds and congests the Buckhead area. We also examine the apparent trends in development and transportation, and make recommendations to the BBA Board of Directors. Plan for and support the present and future growth affected by the trends, representing community and business interests.

Also, this committee presents a positive link to the Buckhead community, and provides support for programs in area schools. We keep members fully informed of civic affairs, foster good government, and take appropriate actions wherever necessary. As events and situations merit, we present the BBA point of view to pertinent officials and agencies. Also, we promote and encourage strong and positive relations with downtown agencies such as Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau and Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce as well as among the Atlanta print and broadcast media.
EDUCATION BUSINESS ALLIANCE
Patte Chandler Barron
Vice President
The Education Business Alliance is one of our newest initiatives with the business community. Alliances are partnerships that develop skills in content, critical thinking, problem solving, communications and team building through relevant world models that interconnect classrooms, students, careers and communities every day.
Our mission is to bring together educators and business professionals whose goal is to help students understand what they must know to succeed in the field of work. Schools and businesses are very closely tied by the common goal of promoting achievement, personal development and lifelong learning. Ultimately, most students end up working for some type of business upon completion of their education and we feel very strongly that the relevance of this training should be meaningful to today’s student and business owner. Our aim is to increase young people’s aspirations and achievements while providing for learning and improvement. Business partners can directly assist students in career exploration by offering extended learning opportunities.
Some of the initiatives we plan to implement include a mentoring program called, “Faces of the Future”, a Speaker’s Bureau, job shadowing, internships, scholarships and other career focused educational programs.

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE
Don Vellek

The Buckhead Business Association’s Public Safety Committee is designed to serve as a conduit to the BBA membership for issues relative to public safety in Buckhead. Through a carefully nurtured relationship between the BBA and the Atlanta Police Department’s Zone 2 leadership as well as the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, this committee stays abreast of current and topical law enforcement activities and initiatives that have an impact on those who work, live, and socialize in Buckhead. These noteworthy events are regularly conveyed to the BBA membership at regular meetings and to the general public through various media, including newspapers and assorted periodicals. A further stated goal of the committee is to elevate the level of recognition of outstanding service provided by those in the public safety arena through awards presented at the BBA quarterly luncheons. Recipients are chosen by their leadership for exemplary performance of their duties and a summary of their accomplishments is presented along with the awards. The Public Safety arm of the Buckhead Business Association also maintains a liaison with related organizations in the spirit of furthering the value of public safety to the general public, i.e., the Atlanta Police Foundation, The Buckhead Coalition and the Buckhead Alliance, among others. The committee is open to all volunteers and meets informally on an ad hoc basis as conditions warrant.
